Jay-Z has opened up to prestigious magazine Vanity Fair about his drug dealing past revealing that being involved in that scene taught him about business and the value of money.
Speaking openly, Jay-Z, who is one of the richest men in the music industry discussed how he became so money-savvy through his days as a drug dealer, selling crack-cocaine during the 80s, commenting:
‘I know about budgets. I was a drug dealer. To be in a drug deal, you need to know what you can spend, what you need to re-up.’
It seems HOV has some regrets about his shadier past and realized the implications his lifestyle was having on others but commented that at the time his main thought was about surviving. During the interview he said,
‘I realised the effects on the community. I started looking at the community on the whole, but in the beginning no. I was thinking about surviving. I was thinking about improving my situation. I was thinking about buying clothes.’
It’s amazing how situations can change if you strive for them to! I bet he never would have thought he would be one of the most influential men in hip-hop, married to one of the hottest RnB singers of our time…
